Nespresso CitiZ and Milk Review

Nespresso Citiz and Milk by Magimix

Nespresso Citiz and Milk by Magimix

The Nespresso CitiZ and Milk by Krups or Magimix is a nespresso machine which means that it uses special nespresso pods. These pods are actually just another type of coffee capsule which are manufactured by Nescafe and, unlike the Dolce Gusto capsules which are only for use in Dolce Gusto coffee machines, they are suitable for use in various machines made by Delonghi and Siemens as well as Krupps and Magimix. Nespresso offer 16 “Grand Cru” coffee from different regions so there is more of coffee variety than with a machine like the Dolce Gusto.

The  Nespresso CitiZ and Milk has 19 bar pressure and is fitted with an Aeroccino which can  create both hot and cold milk recipes. It takes about 30 seconds to produce a single espresso. There is a “single espresso” button which dispenses 25ml of coffee but you can manually change the amount if you want say a long black coffee.

Working the machine is really straightforward. The removable water tank is at the back and it’s very easy to quickly remove so that you can fill it directly from the tap. You then simply place a capsule in the machine and push the lever down. Other than that there are just three  buttons. The on/off switch at the base of the machine and two beside the coffee nozzle which allow you to select the size of the espresso.

The Nesprsso CitiZ doesn’t have a steam pipe but it does have a separate milk-frother. This is a removable container which has its own on/off switch. It and heats the milk and froths cold milk too so great for frapuccinos.

Nespresso Citiz: Magimix Vs Krups

A lot of people ask me what the difference is between the Magimix and Krups versions of the Citiz. Well the only difference really is in the outward design of the machine. In fact I was talking to a Nespresso rep recently and she assured me that there is no difference at all in the quality of the machines. She said that the only differences are cosmetic and that Krups tend to make their machines in brighter colours – you would notice this more in the Nespresso Pixie.  The coffee spouts on the two machines are different so it just comes down to personal preference. See above right for the Magimix and to the left for the Krups. Which machine do you think looks better? They both produce the exactly the same coffee. If you don’t think that one looks better than the other, or you aren’t desperate to have it in fire engine red, then I would just go by which one is on offer at the better price at the time.

Nespresso CitiZ and Milk in a nut shell

This is my favourite capsule coffee machine. It’s well built and supremely easy to use. The flavour of the coffee is great and the milk frother is good fun. More expensive than the Dolce Gusto but the quality and extra choice of coffee plus the milk unit more than make up for the price difference.

EDIT: Much as I still love the Citiz and Milk I have to say that for looks I prefer the Nespresso Lattissima Plus
